Samuraï Exhibition / Civilisation Museum

April 4, 2012 to January 27, 2013

To evoke the Japanese Samurai, the exhibition delves into the mythical world of these fierce warriors from a country long isolated from the rest of the world. A mysterious and fascinating world of combat, codes of honor, and spectacular armor, so often depicted in films, video games, and mangas. More than 150 remarkable pieces from the collection of Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Muller are presented for the first time in Canada. The superb armor of Japanese warriors and their horses, as well as helmets and weapons from the Tokugawa era (Edo Period, 1602-1867) illustrate how the Samurai’s appearance changed over the years. The exhibition also explores the world and the role of these warriors in Japanese history.
